Like Patti Stanger, I Need The C—

Dr. Michele Noonan on MIllionaire Matchmaker

Patti Stanger, star of the Bravo TV series “The Millionaire Matchmaker,” recently disclosed that she had a lesbian relationship while on “The Jenny McCarthy Show.” Patti dated a woman 10 years older than her for a year, but realized she wasn’t a lesbian when she figured out she was a pillow princess (aka someone who likes getting oral sex, but not giving oral sex to girls). Patti said “I realized I had to have the “C,” you know what I’m talking about. I had to have a big hunk of a man.”

I met Patti when I taped an episode of Millionaire Matchmaker last summer. As a bisexual woman, I was called in for a very special episode of the show, the first lesbian millionaire, Charlie Sheen’s personal chef, Chef K (real name Khristianne Uy). Unfortunately I go for lipstick lesbians and Patti was obviously casting me to provide drama as Chef K was butch and not my type at all. In the end, I wasn’t picked for a date.

Flash forward several months and I reunited with an old flame who proposed to me shortly after. So yes, I am engaged and in a monagamous relationship with a man. While I have loved and am still attracted to both sexes, I could not see myself being satisfied with just a woman for the rest of my life. Just like Patti, I need the cock.

Tanning Is Good For You

Happy woman in the sunTanning mom is jumping for joy! Your mom, Dr. Oz, and Cosmopolitan magazine are all wrong: sunshine is actually good for you! Time to stop hiding from the sun like it’s your worst enemy. Hit the beach, the tanning bed or the pool!

New research from the University of Edinburgh shows there are more benefits to sunshine (and indoor tanning) than just Vitamin D. Past medical experts have suggested boosting Vitamin D in your diet or through supplements was better than producing Vitamin D in your body naturally through UV rays because UV rays also increase risk of skin cancer.

Now researchers have found UV rays (from indoor tanning lamps) also decrease your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke! These three health conditions kill 80 times more people than skin cancer, so the health benefits of tanning are obviously bigger than the cancer risk. How is sunshine preventing heart disease? It boosts nitric oxide, which lowers blood pressure.

Nitric oxide also performs a laundry list of helpful functions in your body, including boosting sex drive, your immune system, alertness, concentration, weight lifting endurance and pain relief. Forget an apple a day make the doctor go away. Nature’s medicine is the sun. Make sure to spend some time each day in it.

THANK YOU SCIENCE!!! SEXY (not pasty) = HEALTHY!

I have been a controversial proponent of indoor tanning in moderation, but I always felt I got a Prozac-like mood lift from tanning than you just don’t get from a Vitamin D pill. I was never a fan of the fake spray tan, because toxins in the tanning formula are not meant to be inhaled and may be cancerous. Thank goodness science has backed up my tanning boosts my health theory.

Still worried about getting skin cancer? Use my Bad Girl Health tricks like drinking  coffee, eating strawberries and taking aspirin, since all three have been linked to less DNA damage after UV exposure. Another trick is exfoliating daily with a dry body brush, since you can actually brush off precancerous skin cells before they turn cancerous. Remember to splurge and use higher level tanning bed instead of lower level beds that have more of the sunburn causing UVB rays (or even worse the sun which has even more UVB rays).  Finally exercise, eat health and decrease stress are all known to decrease cancer risk. Go get your glow on!

Dr. Michele Is Team Green Machine

I attended the 2nd Annual Reality Rally in Temecula, CA from April 5-7th to raise money for Michelle’s Place, a breast cancer resource center for young women that cannot afford mammograms, wigs and other services and support. I missed the first night’s festivities due to traffic, but came out bright and early to sign autographs and take pics with fans. Next came the big event, a mini-Amazing Race set in Old Town Temecula.

I was part of Team Green Machine, which included Big Brother 14′s Jodi Rollins, and the husband and wife team from Amazing Race 13, ex-NFL player Ken Greene and Tina Greene. While my team didn’t come in 4th place like I did last year, we did come in a solid 28 out of 60 teams. I think our first challenge ruined our chances of winning, when we decided to put together a log float the silliest way possible. We had a great time either way. Ken climbed a rock wall blindfolded with the rest of the team guiding him, I learned some martial arts routines, and we performed a play we wrote in a minute. There were 13 challenges total.

Dr. Michele Speaks At YTH Live Conference For Youth & Technology & Health

Dr. Michele Noonan opened up the third annual YTH Live conference (formerly known as Sex Tech) in San Francisco, CA. YTH stands for Youth + Tech + Health and was founded by Deb Levine, also founder of the groundbreaking sexual health Q&A service Ask Alice.

Dr. Michele moderated the opening plenary, titled Teen Characters & Idols: Depth, Relevancy, and Opportunity.

Here’s the description from YTH Live:

“Today’s youth learn about sex, relationships, and navigating their daily lives through
TV, film and book characters, story arcs, and tabloids.

Did you ever wonder:

  • Who is behind the storylines in popular broadcast and digital TV shows, movies and books?
  • Are the characters and story arcs true to life and representational?
  • How are LGBTQ teens portrayed?
  • Should true-to-life shows and books that cover abortion, sexual assault and dating violence contain warnings?
  • What is the effect when major tween idols, like Selena Gomez, leave Disney to become young adult actresses?

Listen in on a conversation with young adult authors, screenwriters, digital media makers and young adults themselves about the whys and hows of character development and the interactions between media, scripts and real life.

Participants:
Amy Rardin, Supervising Producer of CW’s “The Carrie Diaries”, ABC Family’s “Jane by Design” and “Greek”
Carter Covington, Co-Executive Producer of the CW’s “Hart of Dixie”, Creator, ABC Family’s “10 Things I Hate about You”

Women We Want As BFFs

international women's dayHappy International Women’s Day! This is an extra special one, being it’s the 100th anniversary and people are celebrating all over the globe. Here at PhD in Sexy we’d like to celebrate women by giving out honorary PhDs in Sexy.

Our Awards Go To:

Superhero: X-men. The comic book series is relaunching in April 2013 with an entire female team, which Marvel is hoping will draw in more female readers. The team consists of Storm, my favorite Psylocke (see me dressed up as Psylocke at Comicon 2011), Rachel Grey, Kitty Pryde, and Rogue.

Musician: Gwen Stefani is the lead singer of No Doubt, mother, wife of Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, and let’s not forget fashion designer and owner of L.A.M.B. She’s a perfectly polished punk rock fashion icon who seems to never age yet isn’t a diva. When I grow up I want to be her.

Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning star of the Hunger Games Trilogy, doesn’t pretend to be someone she’s not. Yes, she’s super talented and gorgeous, yet she’s never fake nice, always makes fun of herself and even gave the finger at Oscar parties in a $10,000 dollar dress. Total rockstar. You must see the videos and gifs of her at Jezebel.com.

CEO: Sophia Amoruso, founder of cult online fashion company Nastygal.com. After starting the company in 2006 at just 22, the company has grown 500% each year and makes over 125 million dollars a year!

Writer: E. L. James, author of 50 Shades of Grey. Yes, I’ve read the trilogy. While it’s not the best writing out there, James has empowered millions of women to push their boundaries in the bedroom, demand a bit more from their men and get their big O.

Scientist: There are just too many amazing female scientists forging ahead in one of the last fields with a super strong boys club in the higher ranks. I have to be partial to this list of STEM scientists making progress in and out of the lab, since I’m on it.

Celebpreneur: It’s a tie between Jessica Simpson, former singer and now owner of the multimillion dollar Jessica Simpson line of shoes, clothing and just about everything else, and Jessica Alba, founder of The Honest Company, a cult site for non-toxic baby products.

Philanthropist: Melinda Gates is the amazing wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Yes, they’re rich and it’s easy to give money away when you’ve got more of it than you need to feed your line all the way to your great-to-the-20th-power-grandkids, but it’s her vision that makes her worthy of this award. Gates gives away money to causes that are “morally” controversial to conservatives (aka everyone else with loads of money) but desperately needed. Case in point: she gave $560 million to fund contraception for women in 3rd-world countries.

Women With More Money Want More Sex

Is this a problem? It could be if you live in one of the 20% of American households where the wife makes more than the husband. A recent study by Washington University professor Lamar Pierce published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found men married to women with higher incomes than they had are more likely to use erectile dysfunction medication like Viagra or Cialis. The study of over 200,000 married couples in Denmark from 1997 to 2006 did not find similar effects for unmarried couples or for men that earned less than their wives before they were married.

The good thing is that higher income women are still having sex with their husbands. The bad news is this study means wives outpacing their husbands in income over the course of the marriage somehow changes the sexual or relationship dynamic. There are two ways to look at the data.

The first way is more traditional, that men become emasculated by their wives making more money than them and literally have a harder time getting it up when in the bedroom. They may also have anxiety that their partner is financially independent and can leave them at anytime for a more financially or even sexually equal partner. This anxiety would make it hard for them to perform in the bedroom and explain the reliance on Viagra and other prescriptions. Another possible way they could be emasculated is that they must have sex on their wives’ schedules, not theirs, due to their wives’ work schedules being so demanding. When the husband no longer feels like the dominant partner in a relationship, sex can suffer.

The second way is that the men are healthy for their age in the bedroom, but their wives are more demanding sexually as their income rises. Women who begin to earn more money in their career may gain confidence to initiate sex more frequently or more spontaneously. Maybe the men aren’t complaining, their wives just want more sex or longer sex and they’re using sexual enhancement aids like Viagra to keep up! One blogger, Penelope Trunk, even theorizes higher income women get more oral sex because they speak up! It’s also possible women with money may feel more prone to live out 50 Shades of Grey kinky sex fantasies, taxing their man.

Whatever the reason, the husbands have it good, because they are getting richer and more educated wives, and more sex. Everyone’s taking Viagra or Cialis now, so there’s no shame. Convince your man to pop a pill and get freaky under the sheets.

Stay tuned for part 2 where I show you how to Make Your Man Feel More Manly And Get Better Sex!
